The HomeShare St. Croix Board of Directors voted February 9, 2010 to dissolve the nonprofit organization effective immediately.

HomeShare St. Croix served the St. Croix Valley and surrounding community since 2006, supporting safe and independent living for older adults while at the same time providing affordable housing to adults in transition. HomeShare St. Croix faced growing economic challenges as our program participants required extensive one to one support and coordination as they sought a housing partner which means a small but significant number of lives were impacted by the housing partnership.

Because this decision not taken lightly, we worked with MAP to identify and create a program transfer plan so that the match services can continue in another organization. We are pleased to share that the Community Thread board of directors has passed a resolution on February 18, 2010, to explore the feasibility of continuing HomeShare given the mission alignment within their suite of volunteer and senior services.

Sincerely,

Jenny West

Our home, our mission and our staff...

HomeShare St. Croix is a community based nonprofit organization, led by a volunteer board of directors representing area community leaders.  We proudly serve Washington and Ramsey counties in Minnesota and Polk, Pierce and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.

We assist those seeking affordable housing and those seeking affordable help in their home, by bringing them together.

Match story....

A 77-year-old female homeowner lived alone with Parkinson’s disease for over a decade.  With her mobility declining and fatigue increasing, she made the decision to hire a home healthcare agency to assist her with a daily visit.  Eventually this grew to twice a day and when her healthcare worker left for the evening, her anxiety would increase.  She feared that something might happen -- a fear we would all have if our own mobility was compromised.  She considered adding the evening shift with the home healthcare agency, but after discovering the cost she knew she could not afford all three shifts.

She joined HomeShare St. Croix based on a referral by a social worker.  Within the first month, she was matched with a 45-year-old female homeseeker who was re-locating back to Minnesota and looking for employment.  Her current job was only part-time.  She did not want to spend the little savings she had on a security deposit for an apartment in case a full time job opportunity took her elsewhere in the metro area.

They were matched together for the companionship and security of having someone in the house at night.  They both have a sense of peace knowing that they are helping one another out by simply being there.
